For dives and somersaults the first number is the dive category, the middle number is a 0 except for flying dives when it is 1, and the third number is the amount of rotation for a dive or somersault.  Odd numbers are head first entries, and even numbers are feet first entries.

For twist dives the first number is 5 and indicates the dive is a twist, the second number indicates the dive category, the third number indicates dive or number of somersaults, and the fourth number indicates the number of twists.  Odd twist numbers indicate the diver is facing the opposite direction than the starting position, and even twist numbers indicate the diver is facing the same direction as the starting position.

Armstand dives are only used in platform competition and begin with a 6_ _ _.

 DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY (DD)

This is the numerical value of difficulty assigned to each dive and is listed on a dive table.  All jumps and line ups are 1.0.  You must first know your dive requirements for your age group and division.  Novice divers usually have all DD assigned at 1.0, except in the older divisions.
